tracking west from melbourne we have arrived at the great ocean road. we did not stop too many times, there were hordes of tourists everywhere and we could not see the sights for all the selfie sticks, not to mention the danger of getting clobbered to death.

but who can resist a good lighthouse. it’s a bit hard to spot in the distance.

here is a better picture. amazingly kris managed to blend out all the crowdsc neat. there are a few lighthouses along the coast; a look at the coastline makes it clear that they were indeed required to keep ships safe. the coastline is rugged, there are many sheer cliffs and only few safe landing spots.

see how the rod was carved into the hillside? the great ocean road was a way to keep returned servicemen occupied after world war one; it must have been back-breaking work to shift all this rock by hand.

we stopped at kennett river. the caravan park we were aiming for, at wye river, had it’s kitchen surgically removed by a caravan. unfortunately i also dented ours at the same camp ground when i tried to reverse without my trusty guide with her radio. there is not much visible damage but my ego took a massive hit.

our setup at kennet river, with the new bedouin awning. as you probably guessed nat & i have a new toy, a drone. we are hoping to take a few good arial shots with it.

our neighbor, literally sitting in the tree next to us. between wye river and cape otway there are many koalas and some are permanent residents at the camp ground.

this guy was just a fly-through visitor.

but there are many rosellas and lorikeets at the park.

today we’ll go exploring, hoping to see a few more friendly forest dwellers. maybe even close up.
