it’s the end of week one of seeing our shed rise u<\/a>p<\/a>. progress was hampered a little bit by a bout of rain today. we only got a few millimeters but i can understand that balancing on top of a wet metal scaffold isn’t a great idea if one wants to be able to turn up to work the next (mon)day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

nevertheless we now have a healthy looking exoskeleton of a shed designed to carry a significant load of solar panels. that’s not quite as self-evident as it seems, many sheds are made of far lighter (and cheaper) materials and can’t take a significant roof load. councils seem to have experience with the destructive effects of such a mismatch between engineering and actual use and now require certificates before solar panels can be installed – unless the shed was built to the required specs. in any case this one has been engineered properly and shouldn’t buckle under the load. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

it will look so much better with the roller doors on the high side and the windows in the lower walls. obviously a few more braces will be added, too, which will make the structure even stiffer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

i also need to make sure the water properly runs off the gravel in front of the shed, it still accumulates in a few spots. maybe i’ll have to install a drainage pipe after all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
