the foundations have been laid, and today we received the material for the shed. we had warned the company about our driveway; it’s a little steep and it can catch out cars that are not good at maintaining traction on loose ground.
i was quite surprised when the truck almost made it up, though, the driver clearly knew what h was doing. when he suggested that he would be able to make it up if the disco gave him a little tow i was even more surprised. the biggest surprise was when that harebrained plan actually worked: the disco’s pull was just enough to get the truck up.
so now the material for the shed is up there, next to the slab, just waiting ot be assembled. hopefully it will come together before the end of the year.
the shed will not only be a power plant, it’s also going to be our water source. with 160 sqm of roof space and given an average 700 mm rainfall in st helens we should be able to harvest something like 90,000 liter per year.
we won’t have that kind of storage capability, but we’ll have two 24,000 l tanks next to the shed. that should get us started. the tanks like to sit on a cushy pad of crusher dust; the one on the east side was pretty easy to build, the one on the west side not so much. the block slopes away quite a bit, so i have to cut in and fill back.
the rock wall isn’t as good as the one aaron built but i think it’s not bad for a first try.
