i know, it should be up and running already. the solar panels and the battery were scheduled to be installed yesterday & the day before and since it’s a sunny day today electricity would be pouring into the system and we could start dreaming about that electric car.
but it wasn’t meant to be, and apparently the weather is to blame, at least partly: according to peter & peter, the shed building wizards, the wet december transformed the ground around their previous shed project into a quagmire. that, and the fact that apparently half the material didn’t turn up, and since it was close to christmas they weren’t able to source replacements. it was someone else’s fault, conveniently.
in any case, the shed has been coming along slowly but surely, and if you can’t see the progress that’s been made over the last week i can’t really blame you. a few studs here, some reinforcements there. it’s not quite like lego in the sense that unlike lego almost every piece needs to be cut to the right length on site, and in many cases shaped by hand for it’s specific purpose.
one peter spent almost an entire day cutting, measuring, drilling and bolting up the eight posts that will hold the roller doors. then the guys spent another half day moving them into place, which required further measuring, cutting and drilling (including into the concrete foundations). all made to measure, on site.
i get it, it’s complicated and takes time to do properly. and frankly, a job not done properly is not worth doing at all. that said at this point i’d really, really like to see the shed finished and to be able to move our stuff in.
kris has already got ideas about how she wants to furnish her bay / room. it will be great to have a fridge up there and a toaster and tea kettle so we can prepare food while we work. i think it will be a nice and welcoming place if anyone ever wanted to sleep there, too.
and i certainly hope this time we won’t miss the solar installation date.
