two wood fireplaces (and the required flue kits). two washing machines. two induction cooktops. one fridge. one microwave / convection oven. those are not all the appliances we need for our new house, but it is all we were able to pick up this week, and frankly, it was all we could get on the trailer.

it’s not a small trailer either: three by one and a half meters isn’t tiny, but it was a tight fit. it may seem crazy that we are buying all these appliances now: the house is far from ready, and we won’t need them for a few months still.

but with inflation running pretty hot and distribution chains still looking shaky we thought we’d save ourselves money and trouble by getting the parts we were after as soon as possible. we were also looking to take advantage of items on sale, like the range hoods, the cooktops and the fridge.

the fridge was incidentally the worst to remove: while fridges are generally not heavy (they are mostly empty space) this one is probably a bit on the large side, and i didn’t have a belt long enough to use the excavator – it was a manual job. kris & i devised a makeshift ramp and slid the fridge down on a trolley. not for the faint of heart.

in comparison moving the – much heavier – fire places was a breeze. you may think excavators dig: holes, trenches … but there is so much these guys can do. these are truly the swiss army knives of machines.
