yeah, bad pun, but there you go: we have finally started. the hemp is being turned into walls, slowly but surely. hemp hurd, lime, water, sand and binder all mixed together and then carefully tamped between two sheets for formwork 300 mm apart.
we were inducted into the secret society of hemp brewers by the godfather of tassie hempingeers himself. he gave us the secret recipe, and made us swear the sacred oath of all hempsters everywhere.
we can’t tell you how it’s done but we can show you what it can do. today was cut short a little: we had to set up the equipment first, then give the frame a last minute check (the master gave it the thumbs up), get the form boards set up correctly – and then we got started.
i think we mixed about 30 bags of hurd, which makes approximately six cubic meters. or a third of one garage wall, and maybe about a fifth of a second. a pretty good start, won’t you say?
