the weather was great today so nat an i decided to go sailing. officially the season is over and none of our mates could make it but we didn’t want to miss the opportunity given you never know when the weather will be nice again.

plus we knew we would not be able to get out for the next three weeks …

it wasn’t overly sunny and not too windy (not bad since we didn’t have a rescue boat on standby) but it was warm and even the water was pleasant. to clarify: we didn’t go for a swim but you definitely get a sense when you walk the boat in.

the wind was shifty with a few unexpected gusts but one of the things we need to get better at is anticipating the gusts and work together to pick up speed and maybe height. the other thing was me trying to stay out during the bear away (when we round the top mark, hoist the kite and send it downwind) because in stronger winds the boat becomes nose-heavy and hard to control if both helm and crew are in on the tramp. it is fun to fly the hull downwind on the trap (usually only nat gets to experience this) but next time i’ll lower myself on the trap.

we did ok upwind but need to get more speed out of the sails. good thing the winter is still long and hopefully we can find some other boats to come out with us.
