they say it saves marriages. i can totally see how; the treg hitch is a simple but effective piece of engineering, allowing the trailer – car connection to articulate in every possible direction while still establishing a strong constant link.
there is only one little problem: it requires precise alignment, or else the little pin (on the right) does not go into the little hole (on the left) and the fun starts all over again. of course the hitch is inconveniently located out of the driver’s (partner a) view which means that a second person (partner b) has to shout clear and concise instructions to aid the positioning of said pin.
‘right …. no my right …. a bit back …. not that much …. now you’re left … your left ….’ – you get the picture. that’s not the kind of stress you need every morning to set the tone for the day. not when you are planning to spend an entire year with your loved ones and want them to remain your loved ones.
so we turned to a brilliant piece of engineering from lithgow in the blue mountains. it was a simple case of removing one and dropping the other in it’s place. sometimes things are simple.
apparently to hook up the van using that hitch it’s enough if both the car and the van are broadly in the same post code area.
‘keep backing up …. yes keep going …. done!’ – that’s how i imagine this will go. after that we’ll have a family group hug, sing a happy song and be on our way.
and live happily ever after.
