it’s the end of week one of seeing our shed rise up. progress was hampered a little bit by a bout of rain today. we only got a few millimeters but i can understand that balancing on top of a wet metal scaffold isn’t a great idea if one wants to be able to turn up to work the next (mon)day.

nevertheless we now have a healthy looking exoskeleton of a shed designed to carry a significant load of solar panels. that’s not quite as self-evident as it seems, many sheds are made of far lighter (and cheaper) materials and can’t take a significant roof load. councils seem to have experience with the destructive effects of such a mismatch between engineering and actual use and now require certificates before solar panels can be installed – unless the shed was built to the required specs. in any case this one has been engineered properly and shouldn’t buckle under the load.

it will look so much better with the roller doors on the high side and the windows in the lower walls. obviously a few more braces will be added, too, which will make the structure even stiffer.

i also need to make sure the water properly runs off the gravel in front of the shed, it still accumulates in a few spots. maybe i’ll have to install a drainage pipe after all.
