i love the nomad. it’s really all i expected it to be.
except … there is a little problem. when i first rode the nomad it felt a little tight. i put it down to the fact that a much shorter guy rode it, and did the usual things: longer stem, seat back. it got better, but somehow never felt right. a bit like a pair of jeans 2 sizes too small.
then i looked into it some more and figured out the frame was a small rather than the medium i thought i had and it dawned on me i would probably never be able to get really comfy.
as a result i was a few ingredients short of a bike.
there is a shiny new chris king tapered zero stack no threadset. a bit of a mouthful i know. this is probably the reason most people order it on line: trying to walk into a shop to get one will most likely end up with the wrong part and a few odd looks.
sram short cage x0 derailleur. lightly used. battle scars always look good.
and a shimano xtr front derailleur. no longer quite as hard as it used to since i dropped the big chainring. less danger of smashing a 150 dollar chainring and saving a whopping 84 grams …
thomson stem.
my trusty joplin seat post. well not really all that trusty. actually i had to rebuild it a few times and after the last ride it would not drop any more. turns out all the water from washing the bike trickled into the black lower part but hen found it had no way of getting out again. so now i am pretty good at rebuilding the bloody thing.
trusty. right.
my red jetblack grips.
a selle italia seat. feels like a slab of concrete with slightly rounded edges. turns out to be rather comfy in the longer run, and weighs nothing.
x0 triggers. the best there are. really.
easton monkey lite bars. carbon fibre. sexy.
my favourite xt cranks. strong and light. what more do you need?
oh, this of course: hope mono m4 brakes. four calipers! on a mountain bike !!!
there is only one thing missing …
yep, the nomad c frame with the fox dhx 5,0 shock.
now we’re talking! and here is the new bike!
