the ‘drug house’ is done. i’m not even joking, that’s the name the tradies gave our new home; it probably sounds more exciting than telling the guys at the pub that you’re working with ‘industrial cannabis’.

it took us 10 working days to finish it, and i’m proud to say that was pretty much what my calculations pointed to – for which i assumed ‘ideal’ staffing levels, which we ended up having. in the end we all agreed it would have been significantly easier to get the job done with the roof off, but we made it happen anyway.

the last pieces of formwork have come off as well, and we are now be able to take a good 360 degree look at our new home. we spent a bit of time fixing up one of the ‘feature walls’ we are planning to keep unrendered. it sits in the living room, on the west end. the wood heater will stand on the right hand side (you can just make out the fresh air tube at about knee hight), and the tv will hang off the timber plate on the left. we know, a tv next to the heater … but we think it will work.

we almost ran out of hemp on the very last day. actually we had one pallet of binder left, which means at some point we received one pallet of hemp fewer than we should have. we’re fairly certain we know what happened, but luckily we were given the access code to the secret x-hemp base. you would like to know where it is? unfortunately we were sworn to secrecy.

the site is still cluttered with tools, materials and rubbish but the house looks amazing. we had half a wheelbarrow left from the last brew, literally just enough to fill a few holes patch up some rough edges.

perfect planning.
